Welcome to the website of Imai Music Studio! We are a bilingual Piano and music school centered in the skip shopping street, which is conveniently located from JR Musashi-
sakai Station in Musashino-shi in Tokyo. You can take piano, music theory, and Kinder Music group class in Japanese or English. It is a cozy and friendly music school where students of all ages, levels and nationalities attend from all over in Tokyo.

Meet the Teachers

Natsuko Imai/Piano
Born in Tokyo. Influenced by her mother, a piano teacher, she began playing piano at the age of two and entered the Toho Gakuen Children's Music School at the age of four. She went on to study music at Toho Gakuen Girls' High School, where she studied under Hisako Ueno. After graduating from Toho Gakuen, she moved to the United States and studied under P. Dokowska at the Mannes School of Music. She began teaching piano while at the Mannes School of Music. After graduating from the Mannes School of Music, she moved her base of operations from New York to Chicago, Illinois, where she performed in solo recitals and as a member of a piano trio, winning numerous awards. While attending DePaul College of Music, she performed at the United Sounds America music festival as a member of Amarcklavier. In addition to performing, she also coaches students for music festivals and competitions, and is engaged in music education at both a private studio and a music school. She has taught at North Shore School for the Art, World Music Company, and DePaul School for the Music. Since 2013, she has moved her base of operations to Tokyo. Music instructor at Bilingal Kids Music International, accompanist at Seisen International School, and music director at Performing Poet Production. She primarily performs concerts through her own productions. She is a certified instructor of the US Guild. She has studied with Hisako Ueno, B. Slutsky, P. Dokovska, E. Anjaparize, and J. Osorio.
Natsuko先生にインタビューしてみました♪ 今井音楽教室の今井夏子です。皆にNatsuko先生と呼ばれています♪ 今までにたくさんの生徒さん達と関わってきました。今現在、生徒さんの半分は小学生、4分の1は未就学児、そして残りの4分の1は中、高、大学生、大人と均等的に幅広い生徒さん達の構成となっております。 ピアノ講師として ピアノ講師としての私は生徒さんに聞いてみないと分かりません。自分の長所と言えるかな?と思う事は、基本的にフレンドリーです。小さな子供達、やんちゃな男の子、静かな女の子、皆と気が合います。中学生以上や大人の生徒さんのレッスンもとても楽しいです。 自分の仕事は、自分を押し上げる為の努力をする生徒さんを応援し、それを手助けをする事だと考えています。個人の能力を押し上げる為には、生徒さんを押したり引いたり、時には何も言わずに見守ったりしながら、時には一気にレベルを上げていきます。年齢や性格、生活環境に合わせて効率的、効果的に練習、レッスンをより簡単に、そして量をこなせる課題を決めます。無理の無い範囲で技術が向上していく事が理想だと思います。「楽しく音楽」より「頑張ったから弾ける様になった」と自分で自分の努力を実感すると共に、「芸術、音楽の理解を深めた為に練習する意味が分かった」と感じてくれる事が理想です。 ピアニストとしての私 自分が演奏するにおいて一番得意な分野はドイツ古典派です。モーツァルト、ベートーベンという正統派のカテゴリーです。ロマン派も良く弾くので、ショパン、シューマンが特に得意です。ドイツ古典派の哲学的な芸術性が一番自分に合っていると感じています。自分ではそこまで硬い人間だとは思っていないのですが。。そうなのかな? ラフマニノフやプロコフィエフも最近では弾いています。幼少の時からロシアやフランスの作曲家に触れる機会が少なかったので、偏ったレパートリーや得意分野はある程度音楽教育に影響されていると思います。この経験から、生徒さんには偏りの無い課題を与える様にしています。 好きな作曲家は?と聞かれたら一番最初に頭に浮かぶ作曲家がベートーベン、そしてシューマン、ブラームスです。 お教室でピアノを教える以外での活動 最近は伴奏をする事が多いです。幼稚園から高校までの音楽のイベントの伴奏(主に合唱の伴奏)をしています。その他には、ピアノ以外の楽器の発表会、そして検定試験の伴奏もします。 コンサート活動も私が音楽監督を務めるプロダクションで開催する事もあります。 その他に幼稚園で2クラス教えています。 一番大変なお仕事は発表会の伴奏です。多くの曲は「ピアノとバイオリンの為の」室内楽の設定で書かれている事が多いので、長く難しい曲です。それを複数譜読みするのはとても大変です。 コンサートを企画して弾く事は一番の贅沢と言えます。皆に聴いて欲しい曲を集めたり、コンサートを企画する事はとても楽しいです♪ コンサート企画は得意分野といえます。 よく生徒さんから聞かれる質問をまとめてみました。 Q. いつピアノの先生になりたいと思ったのですか? A. よく聞かれる質問です。実は、ピアノの先生になりたいと思ったことは一度もありません。「気がついたらなっていた」と生徒さんには答えるのですが、本当です。ずっと演奏一筋で勉強していたので、大学生の時に、近所の人や知り合いから「子供にピアノを教えてくれないか」と聞かれる様になりました。そしていつの間にかそれがお仕事となっていました。 Q. 何人位生徒さんがいますか? A. 40人程の生徒さんを教えています。 Q. 今まで教えた生徒さんの中で一番小さい子は何歳ですか? A. 1歳の男の子です(2歳になる少し前)。最初は不安でしたが、30分レッスンを毎回ずっと真剣に聞いてくれて、「小さな子は集中力が続かない」「男の子は女の子より....」 というコンセプトを覆した子でした。その子に、集中力は個人差があると教えられました。 Q. 教えていて楽しい時はどんな時? A. 一番嬉しいと思う時は、小学生や幼稚園の時から習っている子が中学生になって、高校生になってもお教室に通ってくれる事です。低学年から習っている男の子が高校2年生になりました。大学に入っても続けたいと言ってくれた時は胸に感動の矢が突き刺さり涙が。。。。 中学生の子が引っ越しをして新しいピアノを買うという話をしていた時に「ピアノはどうせ一生弾き続けるから」とさらっと言った時。 ピアノが生徒さんの人生の一部分となった時を感じれた時が何よりも嬉しいです!月に1回は生徒さんから泣かされています。(感動で♪)

Sawaki Yayoi/Piano & Clarinet
Ms. Sawaki started playing the piano at the age of 8 under Ms. Yasuko Yamazaki and Ms. Yumiko Nishio. She also tarted playing the clarinet at the age of 11 under Professor Tadayoshi Takeda and Professor Kazuko Ninomiya.
Graduated from and completed postgraduate studies at the Toho Gakuen School of Music, Department of Performance, specializing in clarinet.
While still a student, she participated in the Okinawa Moon Beach Music Camp, studied under Alain Damien at the European-Japanese Studies Course, Michel Arrignon at the Kyoto French Academy, and Walter Boykens at the Nice International Music Festival.
She studied chamber music under Professor Ryohei Nakagawa, Professor Koichi Hamanaka, and Professor Yoshiaki Suzuki. While still a student, she worked as a freelancer, performing in wind ensembles, as an extra in orchestras, and in chamber music concerts.
He was a member of the TAD Wind Symphony from 1998 to 2007.
From 1998 to the present, I have been affiliated with MIC Co., Ltd., teaching at international schools and through private lessons.
Currently, I teach piano, clarinet, and ear training/solfège at my home and through in-home lessons.
